The gleaming new miniature guitar on display in our golf shop is recognition of an award Maderas Golf Club has received for excellence in social media. Maderas has been named a social media Rock Star by Troon Golf for 2015.

The honor was announced at a Troon Golf corporate retreat that honored excellence across a range of performance categories for courses and resorts within the company.

Maderas has increasingly made social media and content marketing a priority for the past two years now, including bringing Corey Ross on staff last September as the Director of Digital Marketing and Social Media.

Maderas strives to be the most social course in Southern California and among the most anywhere, believing it’s the best way to reach its audience in the evolving new media environment. Those efforts include weekly blogging and a sizeable and steady presence on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.

The Instagram and Twitter accounts, in particular, for Maderas experienced considerable growth in 2015 and into 2016. Maderas just surpassed 1,000 followers on its Instagram.

Perhaps the ultimate measure of Maderas’ social media savvy has been the successful launch of GolfBoard, a marketing campaign that relied almost entirely on the strength and strategies of Maderas’ social media network.

Troon Golf Digital Marketing Director Ricky Potts said Maderas has proven adept at sharing its story across the range of social channels and mediums.

“Maderas does a great job of telling the story of what golf in Poway (and San Diego) is all about,” he said. “(The staff) showcases the courses with images and videos, such as the ones that give insight into GolfBoard, that really make a golfer want to be there. They show that the club is active, busy and always in good shape.”

Prior to the award being announced Maderas had already increased its social media commitment for 2016 by entering into a partnership with its creative agency, Elevator in Carlsbad, to produce content designed to lure more golfers to San Diego. Elevator developed a video that featured head professionals at four elite San Diego courses (The Grand Del Mar, Aviara Golf Club, Torrey Pines and Maderas) demonstrating how to play the toughest hole at each course. The content includes blogs, social media strategy and videos that extolls the various virtues of golfing in San Diego.

Maderas and Torrey Pines are the two San Diego courses rated in the Golf Digest top 100 and Maderas in particular is dedicated to drawing attention to the quality of the golf and vacation experience in San Diego.
